Holiday Treat supported by Finlay Cooper Fund
he Newman Holiday Trust is an entirely voluntary charity which provides respite holidays for children with special needs. One of the priorities is that we take children who wouldn’t otherwise get a holiday, either because of financial constraints or because of complex physical or behavioural needs.
Every child gets an excellent one to one helper, and we also have volunteer nurses as well to support the children’s medical needs. The week consists of fun and engaging activities such as trips to play farms and theme parks, swimming, sports, and there’s always lots of singing.
The North East Holiday provides holidays for 20 children from Teesside and Tyneside, and gives their families and carers a much needed break. Having to care for a child with special needs can be a very challenging and isolating experience for families, the short break we provide is often described as invaluable, it can give parents a chance to spend more time with their other children or just some time for themselves.
This year, The Finlay Cooper Fund donated a fantastic £3,000 to the North East Holiday, which was in doubt due to lack of funds. Each child’s place costs approximately £500, so the money paid for 6 children to have a holiday that helps them grow in confidence, try things they’ve never done before and give them memories they will cherish for a long time to come.
Everyone at The Newman Holiday Trust, and all the children and families, would like to say a huge THANK YOU to The Finlay Cooper Fund for their wonderful
